Fitbit Charge 2 Heart Rate Fitness and Wristband

Today we are reviewing the Fitbit Charge 2. This top fitness tracker targets such a broad consumer base, people that are out of shape and those that want to get in shape. People that are fit that want to stay fit, guys and girls somebody that’s 17, somebody that’s 70, it really has something for every fitness fanatic. Fitbit Charge 2 Blue

The Fitbit Charge 2 is really in that sweet spot between having a lot of features and being very easy to use. The Fitbit Charge 2 is an activity and sleep tracker, it has a built-in heart rate monitor, a few smart features and a connected GPS. The Fitbit Charge 2 is designed to do two things for you. To help you quantify your life and to see a holistic picture of your health. Everything from activity, sleep, diet, weight and more. It also keeps all of that front and center and charts your progress over time. Fitbit also has challenges and social features for competing with friends and co-workers and it even has a new section where you can see how you compare against other people in your age bracket and fitness level which is a very cool feature.

The Charge 2 also makes health and fitness fun for motivation too, namely it has five things that allow you to check stats about your day which helps you keep you on track.

In regards to design the Fitbit Charge 2 is slightly larger than the Alta and smaller than the Blaze which are two devices fitness junkies compare it against. The Charge 2 is roughly the same size as the Charge HR however it does have new big hardware updates. The Fitbit Charge 2 has a larger screen that is clear, vivid and easy to read. The screen however is black and white so it’s not color but it is an LED display. It doesn’t have touch screen functionality either which I prefer, I like having physical buttons and being able to tap on the screen to cycle through your secondary data. It can take a little to get used too, but on the wrist it works fine.

The Charge 2 also now has changeable bands. These silicon sport bands are way better than what you’ve seen from past Fitbit devices, not only are they more comfortable but they don’t collect the lint or dust they clean easily and they don’t rip your arm hair out! There are other wristband options including leather bands you can swap in and out for the office or somewhere more formal which I think is a great idea for a different look.

Is the Fitbit Charge 2 waterproof? No, but it is splash, sweat and rain resistant. It’s even OK to use in the shower although Fitbit doesn’t recommend to do this, but trust me it is fine. Just don’t go swimming with it on or you may regret submerging it.

The heart rate sensor on the underside is basically the same as past Fitbit models but it’s been improved with software updates. Fitbit Charge 2

The optical sensor runs continuously and during workouts is really designed to give you a more accurate calculation of calories burnt and effort level and it does a great good job. The Charge 2 groups things into simple zones for you like fat-burning, peak heart rate etc. For running and biking it’s largely just as good as any external heart rate sensor but at the higher beats per minute (BPM) you’ll notice it’s just not as accurate, it can deviate from what it should read. For weight lifting it won’t be spot on either but time between sets will allow the Charge 2 to snap back to normal readings and over the duration of a weightlifting session the device will settle. The data is fine for cross-training, it will depend on what you’re doing, but usually it will be around 20 to 30 BPM off which will affect the calories burnt number, but overall it’s an improvement to that heart rate monitor compared to the previous Fitbit model.

The Fitbit Charge 2 also has a gyroscope which by default is off but when you turn your wrist over it will display and illuminate the home screen watch face. Watch faces can be switched out as well, which you can access thru the Fitbit Charge 2 app which syncs automatically via Bluetooth Low Energy. With regards to the Fitbit Charge 2 app, it is great and Fitbit updates it often.

Fitbit Charge 2 battery life is stated to be up to 5 days, although realistically I would expect around 4 days battery life. Obviously it will depend on how you use the device, though if you work out a lot, 4 days would be great. Just wearing the Charge 2 without much activity would no doubt improve that Fitbit Charge 2 battery life to 5 days easily.

When it comes to other features the Fitbit Charge 2 is an activity and sleep tracker, so it collects metrics and you get a daily activity goal that you work towards every single day and also move reminders. The Charge 2 actually doesn’t just tell you to move, it gives you a goal each hour to try and hit which is usually 250 steps or more. These hourly goals can be set to a number of hours, for example 9 hours, 10 hours, whatever you want. It’s a great way of setting activity goals throughout the day and meeting targets you set.

Fitbit Charge 2 has a new feature called “Breathing Sessions”, they are designed to help you calm yourself, control stress and your breathing, which in our stressful lives could be a good thing to try.

Fitbit Sleep TrackingSo overall the Fitbit Charge 2 is a great activity tracking device and Fitbit have always been one of the industry pioneers in this fitness sector. The metrics aren’t extremely accurate, but it is well on par with the rest of the competition in the market. It will track your workouts, organize them, provide workout insights and save workout profiles. It has a piggyback GPS system which will pick up your phones GPS thru Bluetooth connection and display GPS data on the Charge 2. The Fitbit Charge 2 when connected to your phone will display incoming calls, snippets of text messages and calendar events etc as well, which is very handy indeed. In my opinion the Fitbit Charge 2 hits all the wants I need in a fitness tracker. To shop for this device click the link below.

Canon EOS Rebel T6i Digital SLR Camera 750D

When I’m on the road or at an event sometimes my smartphone camera can only do so much, in the end I want better looking photos. Now Canon and Nikon are the two DLSR cameras that really come to mind. Canons latest T6 model the Canon EOS Rebel T6i through their consumer grade camera lineup retails for around $350 with the 18 to 55 millimeter kit lens. This review is geared towards the average consumer so I’m here to help you make a smart purchase decision. The T6 remains small and compact with its durable poly carbonate plastics, subtle grips are provided throughout the camera, but one area that I wish the head texture was on the card door itself where your palm plants against the camera. It’s not too bad since Canon does provide a decent deep grip here for holding, alleviating any slippage. The overall quality feels great, though the camera itself weighs just a little over a pound and up to 18 ounces now with the battery and kit lens attached.

The tap buttons and dials provide very good feedback with a nice firm press, but the rear is a bit softer and more flush against the body when compared to the aforementioned buttons, but the actions are still executed perfectly fine. A hot shoe makes a return for connecting accessories like a speed light or an external microphone and moving to the left side of the camera are ports for that microphone and a remote control, and mini HDMI is also provided for connecting this to a monitor or TV. And lastly is a port labeled AV out which I use to connect my camera directly to my computer for file transfers. It’s unfortunately not a micro USB port but it’s a mini USB port so the more common cables you use to charge your phones tablets and other devices won’t work here. The cables are indeed affordable now but keep in mind it uses a different USB connection, At the rear like most consumer grade DSLRs there’s a swivel touchscreen perfect for those who intend on blogging yet perfect for those timed grouped photos to ensure everyone’s in the picture. The screen itself is a 3 inch TFT LCD screen that’s not plastic feeling but a smooth and solid piece of glass. Some consumer grade cameras do feel more plastic and cheap but the LCD here is simply amazing. It’s not an OLED screen but the colors still pop and the richness and contrast looks very accurate and honestly it’s a pleasure to look at.

Canon EOS T6The very last set of features which are now more common on consumer grade cameras is, NFC an abbreviation for Near-Feld Communication. So now you can just tap your phone and your T6i will automatically connect to it with the Canon Connect App. You can also use your phone as a remote monitor and then tap your phone to take a photo, which is highly convenient. Now it unfortunately doesn’t work in video mode though. When testing other cameras NFC function the Canon EOS Rebel T6i performs very similar, it’s not 100% smooth flowing, but if you are taking still photos it’s still very useful. In the app you can change settings and possibly the best feature for me here you can wirelessly download photos from the camera to your smartphone for posting onto social media. Professional level Canon and Nikon DLSR cameras don’t even offer that feature built-in but overall when using the camera it’s easy to learn where all the settings are and the layout is pretty simple. When turning on the camera all of your settings are displayed and if you don’t like using the buttons press the Q button and your LCD becomes your interactive menu for adjusting your settings, white balance, ISO levels, exposure, photo profiles, you name it. If you need to go into Live View, press the icon and when in photo mode like before all your on-screen menus are now selectable for adjusting. Another cool feature is when you tap anywhere on your LED screen you want the camera to focus on, it basically alleviates going through the viewfinder and pressing the directional buttons on the back of the camera. And for those moments or objects that are moving too quickly or if you are a blogger and you want the camera to follow your face either in video or photo mode, you can tap on the subject, your camera starts tracking it easily as it’s now extremely zippy and fast since Canon has upgraded to the digit 6 processor, helping with the cameras speed and also helping with the new sensor that’s on board.

The T6i features the most megapixel of any sensor camera coming in at 24.2 megapixels in total, no not to mention there’s an increase in auto focus performance as well. The T5i came with 9 auto focus points versus the Canon T6i now coming in with 19 and all 19 are cross-focusing type as well. What this all really means is the more area of crossing points you have the faster you’ll be focusing images and with more precision as well, especially for those again moving objects and people. A prime example of how this could be tricky though is the Nikon D50 500, a direct competitor that is to the T6i has an impressive 39 focus points but of all those 39 only 11 are actual cross-type, the more cross-type the more effective your auto focus system is but for now it’s getting really technical here and let’s get back to the basics.

nature photo canon EOS Rebel T6iThis is such a fantastic camera for those who are not tech or camera savvy. Right out the box this camera provides awesome colorful and sharp photos without any adjustments. The Canon EOS Rebel T6i does very well with making colors pop yet still keeping all the colors still balanced and not over saturated and not overdone. I also found that he burst shot mode is perfect for catching those very fast-moving moments and I’m thoroughly impressed by this consumer grade camera as it’s practically ready to use right out the box! Another feature, macro shots or very zoomed in close-up shots and they did very well. Color reproduction is still vibrant with no need to edit photos when you get home. And my last but very important test was, the low-light performance. Using this in auto mode the low-light performance still does well. There are some spots where there is light and the objects there are blown up a bit, but regardless I’m still impressed that there’s not much noise from high ISO levels in the dark areas of the photo. I did switch over to manual mode for the nighttime shots just to achieve the best photos that I could get and the lack of noise I think is simply amazing and don’t forget, all this is handheld and actually without a tripod. The last low-light tests that I performed was in a parking deck where I brought the ISO levels up to the maximum of 12,800 and of course it does introduce some noise but for a camera under $500 and for a camera considered as a consumer camera and not semi-professional, again I was very impressed.

Now for those who are playing and doing videography or blogging in general this can record up to 1080p at 30fps and Canon does advertised up to 60 frames per second however the smooth 60 frames per second is only reserved for the 720p resolution. The competition, like the Nikon D50 500 does offer full 1080 with 60fps there but again I like the auto focus very much on the T6i as it’s smooth and it’s virtually silent when compared to Nikons that I’ve been using. The only thing that I see missing though really for videographers is audio monitoring. You can’t tell if this microphone is either too loud or too low there’s really no headphone port but other than that I highly recommend this camera for the average consumer or those who really who want a darn good at DSLR for $500 or less.
